  4.     This application allows you to enter Japanese script
  5.  (either Hiragana or Katakana) by typing the appropriate
  6.  Romaaji at the keyboard. It can be used in conjunction
  7.  with ANY desktop application that can use the Japanese
  8.  font set supplied with this program.
  9.  
  10.     To enter Japanese, click on the Wapuro icon (a capital
  11. 'A')- The 'A' will change to a hiragana 'a' character.
  12. Also, a small window will appear showing the translation
  13. buffer state (see below).
  14.  
  15.     Now, typing Romaaji syllables in lowercase or
  16. uppercase will produce appropriate character(s) from the
  17. hiragana or katakana character sets.
  18.     Note that this will appear as a jumble of english
  19. characters if you have not chosen a Japanese font to
  20. display the text with!

  23.     To enter English, click again on the Wapuro icon, and
  24. it will change back to the capital 'A'. The translation
  25. buffer state window will disappear while in English
  26. mode.

  28.     The Translation buffer state window (Which only
  29. appears when in Romaaji mode) shows the characters
  30. currently waiting to be translated from Romaaji to
  31. Hiragana/Katakana. For example, if you type 'tsu', the
  32. window will display the letters 't' and then 'ts' as you
  33. type. As soon as you type the 'u', the complete Romaaji
  34. syllable will be converted to Japanese characters and
  35. sent to the current input focus application, and the
  36. buffer display will become blank again.

  38.     If you make a mistake while typing, you can clear
  39. the buffer by clicking on the 'reset' button in the
  40. state window.

  43. Important notes:
  44.     The romaaji syllable 'o' can be confused with
  45. '(w)o', so you must type 'wo' whenever you want the
  46. '(w)o' syllable rather than 'o'.
  47.  
  48.     A special case exists for the group of syllables na,
  49. ni, nu, ne, no, and n. If you type an 'n', !Wapuro will
  50. wait for you to type another character before it decides
  51. whether it should output an 'n' or a 'na' etc. In most
  52. cases, this works fine, but take care, and remember to
  53. read the japanese that appears and check that it is
  54. correct. In all cases, pressing SPACE or RETURN after
  55. typing 'n' will cause an 'n' to be output.

  57.     Four syllables have name clashes (two named 'ji',
  58. and two name 'zu'). At present, !Wapuro matches input for
  59. these syllables in the following way:
  60.     ji  or  sji  :    ji  (as in shi")
  61.     zu  or  szu  :    zu  (as in su")
  62.     tji or  cji  :    ji  (as in chi")
  63.     tzu          :    zu  (as in tsu")
  64.  
  65. Thus, to obtain a chi", you must type 'cji' or 'tji';
  66. Typing only 'ji' will default to the wrong characters.

  68. You can also obtain these characters by typing the base
  69. syllable followed by an English double-quote mark, ".
  70. e.g. In Romaaji mode, type:
